REGIONAL-BASED BRIDAL ATTIRES IN INDIA

India is a culturally diverse country. It’s a magnificent land of divergent ethnic groups, religions, castes, and creeds. Different states uphold different customs and rituals that can be distinguished by cheerful and evocative Indian wedding ceremonies involving distinct attires, food, decorations, and so forth. The most common factor which binds the states together is how creative as well as traditional each and every ceremony is. It is true, Unity in Diversity. Every state in India has a unique garb unabridged with vivid color palettes and elegant drapes. Listed below are some of the most beautiful and customary wedding attires for you to check out;

1. TAMIL NADU WEDDING RITUALS & ATTIRE

Tamil Nadu wedding is loaded with vibrancy. It includes Panda Kaal Muhurtham(a pre-wedding ritual), Mangala Snanam(Haldi), Kashi Yatra, and Oonjal. Coming to the attires, bridal wear includes Kanchipuram Sarees/Madurai/korai sarees, whereas groom wear includes a dhoti.

2. MANIPUR WEDDING RITUALS &ATTIRE

Manipur weddings are held at Bride’s home. The wedding ceremonies involve Hinaba, Yathang Thanaga & Waraipot Puba, Hejiapot, Bor Baton & Leilenga, and, Lugongba (Wedding ceremony). The Manipuri bride wears a skirt, known as Raslila, and a sarong, while the groom wears a white dhoti accompanied by a turban.

3. BENGAL WEDDING RITUALS &ATTIRE

Bengali wedlock rituals are quite similar to Hindu wedlock rituals. It consists of BorJatri (Baarat), SaatPaak, Subho Drishti, Mala Badal, Sampradan, Saptapadi, followed by sindoordaan. In Bengali weddings, the bride carries a red or a green banarasi saree and the groom carries a typical off-white dhoti.

4. SIKH WEDDING RITUALS &ATTIRE

Sikh weddings are some of the most adorable weddings that occur in India. It’s incorporated with beautiful ceremonies such as Kurmai(engagement ceremony), Chunni Chadai, Mehendi & Chooda Ceremony, Vatna (Haldi), Anand Karaj, and Laavan Pheras. The bride wears a floor-touch gown or a beautiful lehenga, usually light in color, whilst the groom wears a sherwani, kataar, and a turban.

5. ASSAM WEDDING RITUALS & ATTIRE

Assamese weddings are just as culture-oriented. There are several rituals that take place in Assamese weddings some of which are; Juran Diya (pre-wedding ceremony), Tel Diya, Nuwoni (Haldi), and Biya (wedding ceremony). In this, both the groom as well as bride wear top to bottom white garb with golden embellishment.

 

6. KASHMIR WEDDING RITUALS & ATTIRE

Kashmir weddings celebrate both traditions as well as beauty. There as tons of pre-wedding rituals like Kasamdry, Maenziraat (Mehendi), and Kanishran while wedding day rituals include Lagan and Posh Puza. The wedding attires are just as beautiful. Groom wears a long-sleeved kurta called Pheran which is tied with a pashmina belt known as louing. Bridal outfits are very attractive and radiant. 7. RAJASTHAN WEDDING RITUALS & ATTIRE

Rajasthan is well-known for its rich, regal, and royal weddings. The folk dance, heavy ornaments, the artistic decor, and most of all, the taste of reverence in everything they do is what makes it so grand and expressive. They have Rajput and Marwari wedlock traditions. Prints such as leheriya, Bandhini, and Bandhej are very common in wedding attires. Lehengas are paired with odhani in a saree-style drape for the bride, whereas achkan cut sherwanis are worn by the groom.

8. GUJARAT WEDDING RITUALS & ATTIRE

Gujarati weddings are an amalgamation of fun, vibrancy, and convivial charm. Pre-wedding ceremonies start with accepting the marriage known as ChandloMaatli, then comes the engagement called Gol Dhana, followed by the usual mehndi, Pithi (haldi), and sangeet. Wedding ceremonies involve Antarpaat, Hastamilap, Kanya Daan, Pheras, and Saptapadi. The conventional Gujarati Rajkot patola or bandhani bridal saree is called Panetar, which is usually in shades of red and white. Gujarati groom on the other hand wears dhoti-pant or kurta-pajama.

9. KERALA WEDDING RITUALS & ATTIRE

Just like Kerala itself, the weddings it possesses are equally beautiful and serene. Rituals such as Muhurtham and Nishchayam (engagement) come under pre-wedding traditions. Wedding rituals include Madhuparkam, Kanyadaanam, Sparsham, and Sadhya followed by post-wedding rituals; Kudivep, and Grihpravesh. Kerala wedding attires are simple yet elegant. The bride carries a traditional Kasavusaree in white with a golden border and the groom carries a white dhoti with a gold zari border called Mundu paired with a scarf, Melmundu.

10. MAHARASHTRIAN WEDDING RITUALS & ATTIRE

Maharashtrian weddings are simple and delightful. Pre-wedding rituals start with SakharPuda(engagement), Kelvan, and HaladChadavane(Haldi). After this, the wedding rituals consist of Seemant Puja, Gaurihar Puja, Sankalp, KanyadanSaptapadi, and subsequently Varat and Grihapravesh. Maharashtrian bride wears a traditional paithani saree in green or yellow with a golden border. She is embellished with pearl jewelry and the gajra. The Maharashtrian groom is dressed up in a modish dhoti-kurta with a stole around his neck.
